Stain Block Primer for White Reflective Roof Coatings
BULLDOG® / DUREX #112 Stain Block Primer is a stain block primer designed to help limit and prevent asphalt staining and bleed-through before white reflective roof coatings are applied. Manufactured with acrylic resins, this water-based primer-sealer creates a preparation layer between asphalt surfaces and DUREX Elastomeric Coatings.
When white roof coatings are applied over asphalt coatings or membranes, staining and discoloration can affect the finished appearance. #112 helps reduce that issue by sealing the surface before the reflective coating system is installed. In other words, it helps keep the white coating looking like it was invited to the roof — not ambushed by asphalt bleed-through.
Designed to Help Block Asphalt Bleed-Through
BULLDOG® / DUREX #112 is used as a barrier primer where newly applied asphalt coatings or membranes require a white reflective roof coating. It helps limit staining from asphalt substrates and supports a cleaner, more consistent finish for the coating system.
This product can also be used to seal chalky asphalt surfaces and transite panels, making it a practical preparation product for roof restoration and coating projects where surface condition matters.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, dust, oil, and contaminants that may interfere with adhesion. Power washing the roof is recommended to help ensure a clean surface before application.
When working with transite panels, do not power wash the panels. Use an appropriate cleaning method that prepares the surface without damaging the substrate.
Application Guidelines
BULLDOG® / DUREX #112 Stain Block Primer is ready to use and requires no agitation before application. Apply by roller or spray in a uniform manner to create consistent coverage across the surface.
The product should be applied as a primer-sealer before the installation of DUREX Elastomeric Coatings, especially where asphalt staining or bleed-through may affect the finished white roof coating.
Coverage Rate
Apply BULLDOG® / DUREX #112 at a rate of approximately 1 gallon per 100 square feet. On porous substrates, additional material may be needed to achieve proper coverage and sealing performance.
When calculating material requirements, add a minimum of 10% to the area to be coated. This helps account for surface porosity, applicator variation, and jobsite conditions.
Dry Time and Weather Conditions
Drying time depends on temperature, direct sunlight, dew, and relative humidity. Allow a minimum of 2 to 4 hours of dry time before applying DUREX Elastomeric Coatings.
Do not apply below 40°F or when relative humidity is greater than 90%. Proper drying conditions are important for primer performance and for the finished coating system that follows.
VOC Compliance and Cleanup
BULLDOG® / DUREX #112 is water based, low odor, and manufactured to meet VOC regulations. Cleanup is simple with soap and water before the primer dries.
Prompt cleanup helps prevent dried primer from building up on rollers, spray equipment, and other application tools.
