Clear Elastomeric Skylight Coating for Fiberglass and Plastic Skylights

BULLDOG® / DUREX #117 Clear Elastomeric Skylight Coating is a clear elastomeric skylight coating designed to seal fiberglass and plastic skylights with a durable, waterborne acrylic film. Formulated for excellent adhesion, UV resistance, and mildew resistance, #117 helps protect skylight surfaces while maintaining a clear finish.

Skylights take a beating from direct sunlight, temperature swings, moisture, and general rooftop exposure. Over time, fiberglass and plastic skylights can become weathered, worn, or vulnerable to surface breakdown. BULLDOG® / DUREX #117 is built to provide a protective elastomeric layer that helps extend service life when applied to a properly prepared surface.

Designed for Skylight Sealing and Protection

#117 is used to seal fiberglass and plastic skylights where a clear, flexible coating is required. Once dry, the product forms a clear elastomeric film that helps defend the surface against UV exposure and weathering. Its acrylic technology provides strong performance for properly prepared skylight substrates.

This product is especially useful when a white or opaque coating is not appropriate and the goal is to protect the skylight surface while preserving a clear appearance.

Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation is essential for coating performance. All surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, dust, oil, and other contaminants that may interfere with adhesion. Power washing is recommended to help ensure the surface is clean before application.

Do not apply elastomeric coatings until the roof or skylight surface is completely dry. Moisture left on the surface can interfere with adhesion and may compromise the finished membrane.

Application Guidelines

BULLDOG® / DUREX #117 Clear Elastomeric Skylight Coating can be applied by brush, roller, or spray. The product is supplied ready to use and should not be thinned or diluted. If applying by brush or roller, avoid excessive brushing or rolling because that can introduce air into the coating.

For skylight applications, a minimum of two coats is recommended. Additional coats may be required depending on the condition of the substrate and the service conditions of the roof.

Coverage Rate

Apply BULLDOG® / DUREX #117 at a minimum rate of 0.5 to 1.0 gallons per 100 square feet per coat. The coating should be applied to create a uniform, pinhole-free, continuous membrane over the entire surface.

Material requirements may vary depending on the surface condition and application method. When calculating material needs, add at least 10% to account for overspray or applicator error and to help ensure complete coverage.

Dry Time and Weather Conditions

Drying time depends on temperature, direct sunlight, air movement, relative humidity, dew point, and related weather conditions. Allow a minimum of 2 hours between coats.

Do not apply below 45°F or when rain, fog, or freezing temperatures are possible within 24 hours after application. For best results, apply only when conditions allow the coating to dry properly and the surface is fully dry before coating begins.

Cleanup

Clean tools and application equipment with soap and water before the coating dries. Once dry, waterborne coatings will not redissolve, so pumps, spray equipment, rollers, brushes, and related tools should be cleaned immediately after use.
