Brushable Flashing Compound for Roof Seams, Fasteners, and Protrusions

BULLDOG® / DUREX #130 Brushable Flashing Compound is a brushable flashing compound designed for repairing splits, cracks, exposed fasteners, horizontal seams, flashings, and roof protrusions. Made with acrylic resins and fillers, this heavy-bodied waterborne material forms a durable repair compound for use on many roof types.

Roof details are often where leaks begin. Fasteners, seams, flashings, and penetrations take the abuse from movement, weather, and time. #130 gives contractors and roof maintenance teams a practical way to reinforce those vulnerable areas before they become bigger roof problems. Small detail work, big difference — roofing has a sense of humor like that.

Designed for Roof Repair Details

BULLDOG® / DUREX #130 is used to repair splits and cracks, seal exposed fasteners, and treat horizontal seams on metal roofs. It is also used around flashings and protrusions on many roof types where a heavy-bodied brushable material is needed.

The compound is often used with #272 BULLDOG Stitchbond Polyester Fabric for reinforcement. When combined with polyester fabric, #130 can help create a stronger repair detail over seams, protrusions, and other rooftop transition points.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces must be clean and free of loose dirt, oils, and surface contaminants that may interfere with adhesion. Loose dirt should be removed by brushing, brooming, sweeping, or power washing.

Rusted metal surfaces must first be primed with #113 BULLDOG® / DUREX Rust Inhibitive Primer before applying #130 Brushable Flashing Compound.

Application Guidelines

BULLDOG® / DUREX #130 Brushable Flashing Compound can be applied with a stiff brush or trowel. The material should not be thinned. If visible separation is present when the container is opened, stir the product before use.

Apply enough material to fully encapsulate fastener heads. When working around protrusions, embed polyester fabric into the compound, then apply a second application of compound over the polyester. The polyester membrane should be feathered so it can wrap around cylindrical protrusions without voids or wrinkles.

Coverage Rate

For exposed fasteners, #130 covers approximately 500 half-inch fastener heads per gallon. When used to seal seams with 6-inch-wide #272 BULLDOG Stitchbond Polyester Fabric, material requirements are estimated at 1 to 2 gallons per 50 lineal feet.

Actual coverage may vary depending on the surface condition, repair detail, fastener profile, seam condition, and amount of material required to create a properly reinforced repair.

Application Temperature and Weather Conditions

Do not apply BULLDOG® / DUREX #130 below 50°F. Ambient temperatures must remain at 50°F during application and while the material cures.

Drying time depends on temperature, humidity, air movement, and the amount of direct sunlight. Do not apply over areas that pond water. Ponding water is generally defined as areas where water remains for 48 hours.

Physical Characteristics

BULLDOG® / DUREX #130 Brushable Flashing Compound weighs approximately 10.85 pounds per gallon and has solids by volume of 51.3% +/- 1.0 and solids by weight of 62.0% +/- 1.0. The product has a pH of 8.8, elongation of 600% at 75°F, tensile strength maximum of 175 psi at 75°F, and recovery after 25% elongation of 98%.

The product also has a Shore Hardness of 24 and shows no effect after 2 years in weatherometer accelerated weathering testing, according to the product data sheet.

Cleanup

Clean tools and application equipment with soap and water before the coating dries. Prompt cleanup helps prevent dried material from building up on brushes, trowels, and other tools.
