Recommended Uses

BULLDOG® #734 Modified Bitumen Adhesive – Brush Grade is used as a cold-process adhesive to adhere SBS modified bitumen single-ply membranes to horizontal smooth asphalt surfaces. For substrates other than horizontal smooth asphalt, consult Palmer Asphalt Company before use.

Application Guidelines

Apply BULLDOG® #734 by brush in a uniform coat over a sound, dry, dirt-free surface. Starting at the low point of the roof, lay precut and relaxed 15- to 20-foot strips of SBS modified bitumen membrane in shingle fashion, perpendicular to the roof slope.

Follow the single-ply membrane manufacturer’s side lap recommendations, but do not use less than a 3-inch side lap. Stagger end laps with a 6-inch overlap. Apply adhesive at an approximate rate of 2 gallons per 100 square feet.

Embed the membrane while the adhesive is wet. Be certain the adhesive bleeds through side and end laps. Weighting and rolling of laps may be necessary to help assure a strong bond.

Primer Recommendations

It is suggested that BULLDOG® Asphalt Primer be applied on concrete and masonry surfaces and on aged asphalt surfaces before using BULLDOG® #734. The surface must be sound, dry, and dirt-free before adhesive application.

Important Use Limitations

Do not thin BULLDOG® #734. Do not use this product with modified bitumen single-ply membranes that have polyethylene or other backing. Do not use on roofs that pond water.

For proper use, read the container label and follow any cautionary statements and instructions provided by the modified bitumen membrane manufacturer. Cover air intakes before applying and while the adhesive cures.

Performance Characteristics

BULLDOG® #734 meets ASTM D 3019, Type III. It has a service temperature range of -30°F to +160°F and a dry time of approximately 2 days at the recommended application rate.

When applied at a rate of 50 square feet per gallon without absorption, the dry film thickness is approximately 16 mils. The product has approximately 72% nonvolatile matter by weight, 28% volatile solvent by weight, 10.5% mineral filler and/or other stabilizers by weight, and a net weight of approximately 8.5 pounds per gallon.

Clean tools with mineral spirits or #99 BULLDOG Asphalt Remover. BULLDOG® #734 contains petroleum solvents and should be used with proper ventilation, protective gloves, eye protection, and safe handling practices.
