BULLDOG® #196 Modified Bitumen Adhesive – Trowel Grade
Modified bitumen adhesive trowel grade products are built for roofing applications where strong adhesion, controlled placement, and reliable lap bonding matter. BULLDOG® #196 Modified Bitumen Adhesive – Trowel Grade is a polymer-modified, cold-process asphalt adhesive designed for SBS modified bitumen single-ply membranes, especially on vertical surfaces and flashing details.
Built for SBS Modified Bitumen Membranes
BULLDOG® #196 is formulated as a trowel-grade adhesive for SBS modified bitumen single-ply membranes. Its adhesive qualities provide excellent substrate adhesion and strong lap bonds, helping roofing contractors secure membrane details where performance depends on proper bonding and application control.
This product is intended for professional roofing contractors using generally accepted roofing practices. In the field, that matters. Modified bitumen work is detail-heavy, and a trowel-grade adhesive gives contractors the control they need around flashings, parapet walls, laps, and repair areas.
Recommended Uses
BULLDOG® #196 Modified Bitumen Adhesive – Trowel Grade is used as a cold-process adhesive to adhere SBS modified bitumen single-ply membranes to vertical surfaces. It may also be used as a roof repair cement on asphalt, metal, and modified bitumen surfaces.

Application Guidelines
Apply BULLDOG® #196 with a trowel to flashings at approximately 1/8-inch thickness. The surface must be sound, dry, and dirt-free before application. Use precut and relaxed membrane strips no longer than 15 to 20 feet.
Allow a minimum of 3-inch side laps and 6-inch end laps. Embed the membrane while the adhesive is wet and allow adhesive to bleed through the laps. Mechanical fastening with a termination bar is recommended for added securement.
Parapet walls should be primed with BULLDOG Asphalt Primer and allowed to dry for approximately 24 hours before applying the modified bitumen adhesive. Cover air intakes before applying and while the product cures.
Important Use Limitations
Do not use BULLDOG® #196 with modified bitumen single-ply membranes that have polyethylene or other backing. Always read the container label and follow any cautionary statements and instructions provided by the modified bitumen membrane manufacturer.
Because this product is designed for professional roofing use, proper surface preparation, membrane handling, lap layout, fastening, and application thickness all matter. The adhesive can do the heavy lifting only when the crew gives it a clean, dry, properly prepared surface to work with.
